How Do Owners Choose Their Pets Food?

Nowadays, there is so much confusing information about what is good for our pets. Trends are always changing in pet care, not to mention the fluctuations of pet food suggestions based on what is popular in humans. It all becomes tricky to know how to feed our pets well. So I’ve taken a look at a reputable study involving fellow pet owners to see why they choose certain pet foods and what they are feeding their pets.

Most pet owners choose ready-made pet food that they can buy commercially. Over half of owners give their pet primarily dry foods, and many of the other half include dry food somewhere in their pets’ meals. A good number of owners prefer to get pet food from large specialty pet stores, and they choose quality over cost. So, in simple terms, most pet owners pick ready-made, high quality food, especially the dry kind, from big pet stores.

Where Do Pet Owners Shop for Pet Food?

A whopping 89% of pet owners choose ready-made pet food that comes in packages, rather than making it at home. Among these owners, about a quarter (23.6%) like getting their pet’s food from big pet stores that focus specifically on animals.

These large pet stores have become popular because they offer a variety of pet products, making it easy to buy every thing for pets in one place. That’s where I go to buy some pet food – and it’s not just about the food; it’s also about the advice from knowledgeable staff as well as feeling as though I’m setting time aside for my pets and making a purposeful purchase.

But, not everyone goes to these big pet stores. Some people prefer buying pet food from regular grocery stores, ordering it online, or even going to their vet practice. Each option has its perks – online shopping is convenient, a vet might have specialty options, and grocery stores are easy to find.

What Foods are Owners Including in Their Pets Diet?

When it comes to what we feed our pets, a huge 85.8% of pet owners include dry food in their pets’ meals. Dry food, like those crunchy kibbles you see, is the most common choice.

But, while dry food takes the lead, there’s a whole world of variety when it comes to what pets munch on. Dry food is what most pets enjoy regularly. Then, you have wet food, which is like a fancy side dish. Some pet owners mix it up, giving their pets a combination of both dry and canned food.

54.7% of pet owners stick to the dry food as the sole food (that’s what my pets get most of the time). Whereas 18% go for equality – they balance dry and canned food in their pet’s diet, giving them a bit of everything.

The variety isn’t just good for taste; it’s also great for your nutrient levels. So, when you’re thinking about your pet’s meals, it’s not just about one type of food; it’s about creating a mix of flavours and textures that keep your pet excited for mealtime.

What Impacts an Owners Pet Food Choice?

It turns out pet owners aren’t casual about the decision of what food they will feed their pets, instead they strongly agree that their pets deserve nothing but the best when it comes to nutrition.

And when you look at their choices, the biggest factor is trust – trust in their own knowledge, gained from their unique connection with their pets, and, crucially, they put immense faith in their veterinarian’s advice. It’s a partnership, where the pet owner’s intuition and the veterinarian’s expertise create a menu that’s tailored to the specific needs of their furry companions.

So, the pet food preferences of owners is not just about dry or wet, it’s about trust, intuition, and a shared desire to make sure our pets receive the best possible care through their daily meals.

Conclusion

To sum it up simply, the study shows that most pet owners prefer to buy ready-made pet food, especially dry food, from big pet stores. The majority of pets are fed a diet that includes dry food. The key reasons for these choices include a strong desire to provide the best nutrition for their pets, taking into account their health conditions. Pet owners trust their own knowledge and their veterinarian’s advice when selecting pet food. Overall, the findings highlight a trend where pet owners prioritise the quality and well-being of their pets in their food choices.
